Hideaway Lake is served by an excellent
public school system and is also blessed with the
presence of three different institutions of higher
learning in Smith County.
The Lindale
Independent School District, which
serves Lindale, Hideaway Lake, Garden Valley,
Mt. Sylvan, Swan, and Carroll, is one
of the most outstanding school districts in East
Texas. "Eagle Pride" abounds on its six campuses,
topped by Lindale
High School,
the winner of the UIL State Academic Championship
for 3A Schools.
The Lindale Schools have separate campuses, for
pre-K and kindergarten students, primary (grades
1-2), elementary (grades 3-4), intermediate (grades
5-6), junior (grades 7-8), and high school students.
Among the five campuses rated by the Texas Education
Agency, all met academic standards, two attained
the additional designation of "Recognized", and
two received the ranking of "Exemplary". Lindale
High School also won state championships in two
sports during 2004 and was second in the Lone Star
Cup competition for combined academic and athletic
excellence.
The
University of Texas at Tyler,
established in 1971, is part of the University
of Texas system and has over 4,800 students. UT-Tyler
offers programs in five colleges - Arts and Sciences,
Business and Technology, Education and Psychology,
Engineering and Computer Science, and Nursing and
Health Services. Students can earn a bachelor's
degree in 32 different fields, and UT-Tyler also
has master's degree programs in 27 subjects.
Tyler
Junior College,
the home of the nationally-famous Apache Belles
and the award-winning Apache Band, was founded
in 1926 and offers an outstanding two-year program
of preparation for four-year degrees, as well as
employment-focused programs in Allied Health and
Nursing and in Applied Studies. TJC serves its
student population of almost 10,000 from two campuses - a
73-acre Main Campus in southeast Tyler and a very
new West Campus on the Tyler Loop.
A smaller, private school - Texas
College - was founded in 1894 and offers
bachelor's degrees in 16 different subjects of
liberal arts studies, plus two associate degrees.
